Malaka Parker

Caretaker Β· Returning Candidate

Malaka Parker is one of Antigua and Barbuda's most tenacious advocates for parliamentary accountability. A former UPP Senator first appointed in 2009, Parker brings institutional knowledge of governance and a track record of standing firm on principle - she resigned from the DNA's chairmanship before the 2023 elections rather than compromise on her convictions, and subsequently returned to the UPP with renewed focus. As caretaker for St. John's Rural North, Parker has been among the most vocal proponents of parliamentary oversight reform. She championed three landmark private member bills tabled by Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle, calling for joint select committees to scrutinise the Public Works Department, the National Health Service, and the Social Security Board - pillars of governance she argues have been shielded from proper legislative review for too long. Her approach to politics is grounded in democratic theory: she has repeatedly invoked the principle that "democracy is not winner-takes-all" and that robust parliamentary oversight is the foundation of a functioning state. Constituents in Rural North can expect a representative who will be present, vocal, and constitutionally literate.
