Alex Browne

Former Senator Β· By-Election Veteran

Alex Browne approaches this general election with hard-won battle experience and no illusions about the task ahead. After contesting the March 2025 by-election in St. Philip's North - triggered by the retirement of 50-year Labour incumbent Sir Robin Yearwood - Browne polled 406 votes to the ABLP's Randy Baltimore's 924. That result stung but was not unexpected: St. Philip's North had been unchallenged Labour territory for half a century, and Browne was always playing a long game. During his time as an appointed Senator, Browne was relentlessly active in the constituency - fighting publicly for residents' traditional beach access to Laurys Bay after private developers blocked it, challenging peppercorn land deals that transferred prime eastern land to investors at the expense of locals, and holding the absent Labour MP accountable for decades of infrastructure neglect. His phrase "50 years of nothing" crystallised what many St. Philip's North residents had felt but rarely heard articulated with such force. Browne's stance after the by-election loss was notably unbowed: he immediately announced his readiness to contest the general election with even greater preparation. He believes - and the data from 2023 shows - that St. Philip's North is becoming competitive. The margin in the 2023 general election was just 93 votes - the closest in the seat's history. Browne's task is to build on that foundation and close the gap with a constituency that is beginning to demand something different after half a century of the same.
